A destination wedding for Raissa Mendes and Thibaut Richet became more meaningful thanks to the gracious hospitality and homey warmth of the team at Crimson Boracay.Whenever people think of destination weddings, their thoughts usually lead to something chic and incredibly elegant, but not necessarily warm and welcoming. It is not like a wedding held close to home where the fond embrace of family and a comforting familiarity are close to hand. Indeed, many have said that, while a friend or a relative’s wedding was a major experience, these events feel somewhat cold and impersonal.This was not the case with the Boracay wedding of Thibaut and Raissa who opted to begin their shared life with a ceremony and reception on the pristine white shores of Boracay. Their paradisiacal nuptials were made possible - and, more importantly, given the friendly and familial ambience of a hometown wedding - by the dedicated team at Crimson Resort and Spa, Boracay."It was cool!" Raissa recalls enthusiastically. "Everyone took the shuttle from Crimson's Welcome Center to the hotel and we were welcomed by a band of drummers - I've never had that kind of experience! It was a surprise for us, and also a really nice welcome for all of us who arrived at Station Zero."

A Home Away From Home

Rather than the traditional trappings of a conventional wedding, Raissa and Thibaut opted to go for a minimalist theme that would, nevertheless, be classic and timeless.The couple's primary motif involved lush greens interspersed with gold accents - a color scheme that called to mind the natural foliage endemic to the island, as well as the glittering sparkle of Boracay's famed white sand under the sun.The natural beauty of the tropical paradise was not the only thing that made the wedding unique, but also the couple's use of a number of local elements throughout the ceremony and the reception. The venue was festooned with locally woven abaca fans which also served the practical purpose of helping guests cool themselves in the tropical heat; likewise, members of the bridal party were outfitted with accents with a distinctive local touch: straw bags for the ladies, hats for the gentlemen.Tables at the reception were made verdant with live plants and, in lieu of confetti and sparklers, the bridal couple was cheered on with handfuls of fresh flower petals tossed into the air as they made their way down the aisle.

Simple and Timeless

For Raissa, the constant attention of the staff assigned to their wedding certainly made a difference and made the Heart of Station Zero feel like a home away from home."I think everyone was really professional and really accommodating with our requests," she recalls. "Everyone was really polite, really pleasant and hospitable - and everything was really nice.Coming to Crimson Boracay opened the couple's eyes to a whole new realm of activities far removed from the usual attractions that the island paradise is known for, including classes with the resort’s artist-in-residence, exceptional cuisine at MOSAIC Latin American Grill and at the Azure Beach Club, as well as soothing treatments from the therapists over at AUM Spa.But while they did enjoy getting married at Crimson and partook of its amenities as newlyweds, Raissa hopes that they could bring their family over when the time comes."We would like to go back with our kids [in the future,]" she says. "We want to show our kids where their parents got married. That would be great because we had all of our families there for the wedding. That would be really sweet."
